Rom 11:5 So
too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
Rom 11:6 But if it is
by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no
longer be grace.
I think that all would agree that we are saved by grace.
There are some that would say, “yah, we are saved by grace, but we need to add
our part.” I think the bible is clear
that we have nothing to add.
Rom 3:10 as it is
written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
Rom 3:11 no one
understands; no one seeks for God.
Anyway most agree that we are saved by grace and that we
cannot add anything or do anything that would cause God to give us more grace.
It is by the merit of Him and not of any of my merit, because I don’t have any
merit.
But the issue that I would like to address this month is the
life we live after we are saved or brought into the kingdom. A lot of
Christians live as though they have to earn God’s blessings in their daily
life. What I mean by that is this; say you meet an old friend that you haven’t
seen for years and you want to talk to him or her about the Lord, as you stand
there talking and praying in your mind you begin to take inventory of your
merit. Did I have a devotional time this morning? Did I read the bible today?
Or did I tell a half-truth yesterday? If we have a good check-list then we
think that we have enough merit for the Spirit to give us the help we need.
I know that you can find a lot of people that preach that
God’s blessings are conditional but I don’t think that is living in the grace
that comes from God.
