A verse for 10/9/13

10/9/13

1Pe 5:10  But after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who calls you to share his eternal glory in union with Christ, will himself perfect you and give you firmness, strength, and a sure foundation.

“the God of all grace” That’s one thing that Peter knew for sure!
Just go back and look at his life; he’s the guy that gets preached about “the gut that is always sticking his foot in his mouth”
He sarcastically tells Jesus that he will let down the nets.
Luk 5:4  When he finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Push the boat out further to the deep water, and you and your partners let down your nets for a catch."
Luk 5:5  "Master," Simon answered, "we worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I will let down the nets."

Jesus calls Peter Satan and says that he is an obstacle in His way.
Mat 16:21  From that time on Jesus began to say plainly to his disciples, "I must go to Jerusalem and suffer much from the elders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law. I will be put to death, but three days later I will be raised to life."
Mat 16:22  Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "God forbid it, Lord!" he said. "That must never happen to you!"
Mat 16:23  Jesus turned around and said to Peter, "Get away from me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my way, because these thoughts of yours don't come from God, but from human nature."

Jesus again has to rebuke Peter in the garden after he tries to use force against those who came to arrest Jesus.
Joh 18:10  Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the High Priest's slave, cutting off his right ear. The name of the slave was Malchus.
Joh 18:11  Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword back in its place! Do you think that I will not drink the cup of suffering which my Father has given me?"

And then the most famous one of all; "I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!"  We all know what came of that brag, he denied Jesus three times.

Mat 26:33  Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, "I will never leave you, even though all the rest do!"
Mat 26:34  Jesus said to Peter, "I tell you that before the rooster crows tonight, you will say three times that you do not know me."
Mat 26:35  Peter answered, "I will never say that, even if I have to die with you!"

But even with his life style of “blowing it” God blessed him so much that he says that God is the God of all grace.
God blessed Peter not because of Peter’s merit but because of God’s grace.
