My very first experiences with church was; when I was very
young maybe 6, or 7 years old one late summer afternoon I was out in the street
playing with Harold Rose, when he said that there was a new church just across
the field at the end of our dead-end street in the old store building and that
they was going to have church tonight. I cannot remember ever going to church
before that. I’m not sure why that was exciting to a little boy, except that it
was in the plan of God, but I remember running home to ask if we could go to
church that night and my mom had already heard about the church and was planning
to go. At the “alter call” that night I ask Jesus into my heart.
Well with what I learned for all the teaching that I got and
understanding of a little boy, I would live an up and down struggle for the
next 20 years or so. Because my assurance of salvation was based on me and how
good I was and what I had done, and not on the finished work of Jesus Christ.
I want you to be sure of this one thing, if I never impress
you with anything else always know that your salvation is not about you but it
is about God and His glory and the steadfastness of Christ. You are not holding
on to him, if you were then you would be in trouble, but He is holding on to
you and it is for His glory not because of who you are or what you have done.
And He is steadfast in directing your hearts to the love of God.
2Th 3:5 May
the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of
Christ.
