Thankful for Calvin

Many of you already know that our dad, Calvin passed away on November 1st. It is a testament to his devotion to the Lord, his love for you, and the care and sovereignty of God that he had verses relating to Thanksgiving already loaded in and ready to be delivered throughout the month of November. It has been a comforting reminder of our call to be thankful and to praise the Lord even in the hard times.

Though you will no longer be receiving daily verses, we will be leaving this blog active so you will be able to come back to it and read over past verses at any time. Please remember that our dad loved you and we know that if he could leave you with one parting thought it would be to point you to the cross.

Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.

It is a whole lot easier to be thankful when you are being blessed, than if you are being cursed. You should read the whole chapter. “faithfully obey the voice of the LORD your God”

Don't be so busy in your life, trying to fill the longing in your soul with things of this world, although the things of this world may supply some pleasure but not a filling of the soul. Only He can fill the longing in your soul, and He fills our souls with good things. Be thankful!

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

We need to read the word everyday so we can have a good attitude by hearing things like this!

Mat 6:1 "Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven.

As the sinful, fallen, creatures that we are, it is hard to do anything with a pure motive, we want to be seen and we want others to think better of us. Like the father of the child said to Jesus "I believe; help my unbelief!" so our selfish attitude shows through, and we need to say, “Father I want to have pure motives; help my tainted motives!”

Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

A selfish attitude will always result in a bad attitude. Have affection and be sympathetic. It will result in a good attitude.

The message; 2-4 Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.

Isn't that interesting? “Count it all joy” ; “Consider it a sheer gift” Either way you say it, it has to do with your attitude.

Don't let anything take away your joy/gift today! Have a good attitude.
